Welcome from Bishop Michael Smith
Since Pentecost, the joy of the Gospel has been poured from the hearts of Christians onto paper, into print, icons, sculpture, canvas, wood-carvings, stained-glass and in architecture. Improvements in technology in recent years have seen Mass being broadcast by radio and television while SMS messages and e-mails help us keep in touch with family and friends.
With all these developments, it is no surprise that Pope John Paul issued a challenge in 2002 to “launch out into the deep of the net” . He invited us to use the internet as a means of bringing the Gospel to all who use computers at home, at work, for study and keeping in touch.
I am pleased to be able to upload this site from the village of Clonard – the centre of early Christian learning establised by St Finian. While no visible signs are present in the village today of his university of learning, the flame of faith continues to burn brightly in the hearts and homes of communities all around our diocese.
May the fire of Pentecost which spread to Slane, Clonard and throughout our country continue to burn brightly in the hearts of all who use this site. I hope that this website will help you to grow in love of God and deepen your commitment to your parish community!
